I watched the two-hour season eight premier episode of Stargate 1 the other night, and I'm surprised not to see more reaction from fans on the web. I've read that this show received the highest ratings of any episode yet, so I know I can't be alone in thinking...what a stinker!
It reminds me of the most recent season of The West Wing. Sometimes it's a change in writers, other times new directors, but for whatever reason, suddenly a new season begins and the look and feel of the show, not to mention the acting and plot, have become tired, predictable and stereotypical. I was amazed at the shallow story line, the bad acting, the pathetic dialogue. Over the years of watching TV and writing I've developed an ear for authentic dialogue. And both The West Wing and Stargate 1 used to have very tight, well paced dialgue. Not any longer. Since it's the same group of actors in each series, I find it hard to blame them. It has to be the writers. Where ever the old ones went, get them back. Where ever they found the current ones, send them back. As far as the bad acting goes, I think I can again blame the writers. Give them decent material to work with, and I'm sure the results would be better.
Television is supposed to be entertaining. I find it impossible to be entertained if I'm constantly distracted by poor acting and unconvincing dialogue.
Maybe I just need to spend more time on the computer.
